Reinhardt has been coaching wrestling 26 years at Howland with the last 16 as head coach. In that time, his teams went 271-60 with 24 tourney winners. "Every match was a struggle for him his senior year because he had appendicitis but he still won most of them." "I think he's the only one at Charleroi to be a captain in three sports (wrestling football and baseball)," added Hall. "And he was also on the national honor society." 1 September 2004...Congratulations to local boy on his promotion to Master Sergeant. Letters to the Editor.... From: rdmojr To: webmaster@hrpr.com Subject: Charleroi? Date: Tuesday, 20 April 1999 05:33 What does your web site have to do with Charleroi? Let's see, I was born there. My parents were born there. Do you remember the PALACE THEATER that used to be on McKean? My Great Grandfather designed, built, operated, and owned it. He also owned the first electric plant, and sold electricity to businesses in town. My Grandfather (on my dad's side) was a teacher at Charleroi H.S. up until the early 60's. I've got more relatives in Charleroi, PA, than the whole rest of the United States combined. If I were to ever be in Belgium, I would make a point of visiting Charleroi. The glassmakers that came to the U.S. and ended up in Charleroi, PA, were a bunch of people from Charleroi, Belgium, and that is where Charleroi, PA got it's name. Robert D. Mollenauer, Jr. Ridgecrest, CA (BTW, where Bethel Park, PA is, once upon a time, up until the mid 50's, there was a place called "Mollenauer Station", and "Mollenauer Street" is still there!) Editor's Note...15 May 2003...There is an ongoing project to restore the facade of the old Palace Theater. The picture below shows the work in progress. ![]() From: "Scott" To: webmaster@hrpr.com Date: Tuesday, 25 April, 2000 19:01 Great to see "home" when I need it. Ran across your page and loved it. Don't know whether I know you all or not. I only make it back to Charleroi every other year or so, but was brought up there and still call it my hometown. Loved seeing St. Jeromes from...where my elementary school "used" to be. I used to live next door to the Carusos back in the late 60's right across from it. I also lived on McKean...two doors down from the Slovak club. Well, I'm rambling now....but GREAT to see someone doing something for us "displaced" Charleroians. Been in Va Beach for about 14 yrs now and still miss the ole place. Scott Hodgson Sent: Tue Jul 31 17:17:54 2001 Name: Paul E. I worked in the movie industry in Los Angeles for some time, first with Bruce Willis, and then John Travolta before I came back to Carnegie in 1995. My last film was "Broken Arrow" (not a western) with John Travolta and Christian Slater, along with Howie Long. My characters' name is Sheppard. If you know of anyone in your area that has these sort of items to sell, I would be interested in taking a look at them. Mostly posters, printed materials, props, etc. I am presently in the Commercial Dept. of Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Pittsburgh, so I am all over the map at any given time. Thanks for your time, Jeff Stephan From: Judy Corcoran (judycorc@conwaycorp.net) Subject: New message in your guestbook Date: Wed May 14 17:42:38 2003 Hometown: Conway, Arkansas I ran across your page when I typed in Charleroi, PA on an Internet search. I have enjoyed it because I was born at the Charleroi/Monesson Hospital, lived in Belle Vernon, then Dunlevy; went to school at Allenport, Vesta then Charleroi Junior and Senior High School until late in 1958 (10th grade). I remember going to Isely's after school, walking up Fifth Street hill to get to school (that's when the junior and high school buildings were up there); Rainbow girls, seeing "Sayonara" at the Coyle Theater, eating at Rego's, shopping at the Thorofare, going to Cougar football games, and Christmas shopping in that wonderful place, downtown Charleroi. I miss it. I'd love to hear from anyone in the CHS class of 1961. Local Trivia... Charleroi is the home of one of the many locks and dams that allow year-round navigation of the "Mighty Mon."
