Stakeholders in the Health Industry Invited to Advise on Internet Best Practices

Dot Health Limited, the Gibraltar-based organization seeking to operate a new .Health top-level domain (gTLD), today announced the creation of a Governance Council that will allow the world health community to provide input on the .HealthTLD.  The Governance Council will be called upon to monitor, advise, and recommend best practices for the .HealthgTLD.

Those of you who have been in the content management industry a while will remember the CMS Watch report. I’m not sure when I first heard of it, but I think it was at an AIIM conference in 2005. I remember thinking that if we could just get Agility into that report, we would have it made. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how many of the systems that ranked well in 2005 are either gone or no longer relevant.

A few years later, I saw an article on CMS Wire that Ektron had made it into the Gartner Magic Quadrant. I realized that it was going to be hard to complete with this level of recognition, no matter how superior Agility is.

Fast forward to 2013, and Agility is yet to be found in either of these reports. I reached out several times to CMS Watch in the early days, but we were just too small. I called Gartner in 2010 to see what it would take to get on the Magic Quadrant. They were quick to point out that Agility was probably too small, but if we paid $20,000 they would take a closer look.

It struck me that it might be worthwhile to write an article on the topic to dig deeper into the options available for CMS vendors. Here are my findings.

Today, developers announced the availability of Movable Type 5.2.6 and 5.15. The Movable Type 5.2.6 release offers fixes for bugs found after the release of version 5.2.3 and features four brand new functions. The Open IPTV Forum (OIPF) has published a profile of HTML5, CSS, DOM3 and other related web technologies aimed at connected TV services and devices that implement a browser-based application environment. It describes a common profile based on the latest, stable web technologies defined by the W3C that are expected to be implemented by connected TV manufacturers and can be relied on by application developers, and content and service providers for the creation of rich HTML5 applications. The profile avoids extensions or modifications to any of the referenced W3C technologies, but defines a subset of those specifications that have achieved a high degree of stability. The functionality chosen is specifically targeted to support interoperability between entertainment services and connected TVs.

Sometimes timing is everything and some would argue that I should have jumped on this story weeks ago. Earlier this month, Rivet Logic announced the launch of Crafter Software Corporation, which offers commercial support and licenses for the Crafter CMS open source project (previously known as Crafter Rivet). I didn't jump on the story and CMS Report is probably one of the few CMS news sites that didn't talk about the Crafter Rivet spin off into Crafter Software. The honest truth, I just didn't want to rehash the press release on the day the announcement was made without offering some additional perspective of my own.
