Ross and Owen, August 2012

Back to school this month :(

Bubble Rock, Acadia National Park, MaineWe had a busy month.  On the first Saturday of the month, we made our annual pilgrimage to the Reinhardt Family Reunion at the Mon Valley YMCA in Carroll Township, PA.  On the way, we picked up Owen, who was finishing up a week at Boy Scout Camp in the Laurel Highlands.  A good time was had by all but the trip home was no fun at all.  There was an accident on I68 in Cumberland, MD that brought eastbound traffic to a complete halt for almost two hours.

We spent a few days at home and then off we went again.  This time we were headed north to the Pine Tree State, with stops in between at the home of the Molly MacGuires and Dunder Mifflin and the home of the Yankee Peddler.  We spent the majority of our time in Maine, taking in the sights, including Acadia National Park, and devouring lobster, with a stop in Boston, MA for a day or so on our way home.

Marie and LouieOur "dog count" doubled this month.  A few day ago Mom took in two Pugswho needed a foster home.  We have four dogs and counting now.

We will be heading back to school on the 29th of this month.  I will be a sophomore (tenth grade) at Tuscarora High School and Owen will be in his second year (seventh grade) at Smart's Mill Middle School.

Pug Update: Marie and Louie were adopted on 25 August 2012 and are now living with their new family in Montgomery County, MD.

Happy Birthday to Dad and the USA...

Ross and Owen at Deep Creek LakeWe spent a week with friends at Deep Creek Lake this month.  It was great to get away from the record-breaking heat we were having at home.

A "Derecho" came through our area late last month and left a quite a bit of damage due to fallen trees and high winds.  Granny and Pop-Pop's power was out for an extended period, so they packed up their freezer contents and the dogs and spent some time at our place.  There was no damage to their house but two large tree limbs snapped off and fell in their backyard.

Happy Father's Day to Dad and Pop-Pop...

School is out and so are Ross's braces.  We've finished our "freshman" years at high and middle school respectively, and are looking forward to being "upperclassmen" when the fall term begins.

Our pool is now open for the summer and we have been making good use of it.  Granny's dog Piggy also enjoys the pool.  She likes to drop her tennis ball into the pool and bark until someone retrieves it and throws it for her to chase after.

Time for May Day, Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day

On May 5, Owen ran in the Smart's Mill 5K.  Mom and dad also participated.  They did a 1.75 mile (~2.82 kilometers) walk.  Owen did the full 5K (~3.11 miles).

Other newsworthy events this month:

  • Owen's Car Bed is now history
  • Owen made the Smart's Mill Middle School All-A Honor Roll
  • Granny got a new refrigerator as a Mother's Day present; her old one is retiring after 18 years of faithful service
  • Mom started a new Blog
  • Gunny and Piggy were accepted for social memberships at the exclusive Towne Animal Clinic in historic Leesburg, Virgnia; they plan to spend quality time with Baby and Cappy at the clinic's world famous four-star resort this coming summer
  • Pop-Pop and Granny are building a flower garden in their front yard to replace the Maple Tree that had to be taken down last month
  • Our pool will open on or about May 18.

Ross and Owen, April 2012

The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.  Let us be thankful for the fools.  But for them the rest of us could not succeed. -- Mark Twain

Bunny BreadNot much new this month.  The weather is back to normal.  More like a typical Spring now rather than the Summer-like weather that we had in March.

Granny, Pop-Pop and the dogs came to visit on Easter Sunday.  Granny brought her usual Easter Baskets filled with way too much candy (according to Mom, not us!).  And Bunny Bread showed up again on this year's Easter Dinner table.  Looks like it's becoming a tradition!
