Happy 18th Anniversary to Mom and Dad!

The big event at our house this month was the arrival of our new dog on November 5th.  We adopted her from the Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue.  Her name is Baby and she's from Tennessee.  She was really sick when the rescue people took her in but thanks to them she arrived at her new home with us in tip-top shape.

The latest newsworthy happening at Granny's house was a deer that somehow managed to get over the six foot fence and into the yard.  You can read more about that here.

This year, we had Thanksgiving Dinner with Dad's brother and his family in Charlottesville, VA.  A good time was had by all.

See you next month...

Happy Birthday Mom

It could be worse...my brother got turned into pie filling! October is Mom's favorite month.  She really likes this time of year and always decorates the house and yard with stuff that has an "Autumnal" theme, which of course includes lots of Halloween decorations.

Bon Voyage Grandpap Olaf

Congratulations Allyson and Matt

Bubble, Bubble!

Round about the caldron go; In the poison'd entrails throw. Toad, that under cold stone, Days and nights has thirty-one; Swelter'd venom sleeping got, Boil thou first i' the charmed pot! -- First Witch, "Macbeth," IV:1

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble. -- Witches, "Macbeth," IV:1

Fillet of a fenny snake, in the cauldron boil and bake: eye of newt and toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog, adder's fork and blind-worm's sting, lizard's leg and howler's wing, for a charm of pow'rful trouble, like a hell-broth boil and bubble. -- Second Witch, “Macbeth,” IV:1

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble. -- Witches, "Macbeth," IV:1

Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf; Witches' mummy; maw and gulf Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark; Root of emlock digg'd i' the dark; Liver of blaspheming Jew; Gall of goat, and slips of yew Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse; Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips; Finger of birth-strangled babe Ditch-deliver'd by a drab, Make the gruel thick and slab: Add thereto a tiger's chaudron, For the ingrediants of our caldron. -- Third Witch, "Macbeth," IV:1

Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble. -- Witches, "Macbeth," IV:1

Cool it with a baboon's blood, Then the charm is firm and good. -- Second Witch, "Macbeth," IV:1

We have some sad news to report.  Our Grandpap Olaf passed away on September 29th.  We were sad to see him go and will miss him, but know that he is now in a better place and reunited with Grandma Rose.

More bad news...Owen fell off of his scooter and broke both of his arms.  Fortunately, the fractures were not too bad and he is well on the road to recovery.

Now the good news!  The gala event of the month was the wedding of Mom's cousin Allyson.  The wedding took place at the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, which is about six mile south of Pittsburgh, PA.  The reception was held at the Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, PA.  We all had lots of fun during the wedding festivities.  Owen was really impressed by the "Cookie Room."

Ross is busy earning more Merit Badges.  He hopes to someday become an Eagle Scout.  He is currently a Star Scout and is busy working towards the next level, which is Life Scout.  He is doing a lot better than his Pop-Pop, who never made it above Second Class.  And Owen, a Cub Scout veteran who recently joined the Boy Scout ranks, already has three Merit Badges.

Get the candy ready!  We can't wait to go Trick or Treating.  That is, all of us except Ross.  He declared last year that he was too grown up to participate in such childish activities.

See you next month...

Happy Birthday to Brian J. and Brian M.

first day of school, 2011Not much going on this month.  All the exciting stuff (first day of school, earthquake, hurricane) happened late last month.  We survived all that with no problems except for a large tree branch that fell in Pop-Pop's back yard.  As we write this, he is still trying to figure out how to dispose of it.

Back to school this month :(

On the first Saturday of the month, we made our annual pilgrimage to the Reinhardt Family Reunion at the Mon Valley YMCA in Carroll Township, PA.  And we also visited with some of Dad’s relatives who live a few miles down the road from the YMCA.

We also spent a week this month vacationing at the beach in Duck, NC.  Duck is on the Outer Banks, so we are now the proud owners of one of those OBX stickers one sees plastered on car bumpers and windows.

While we were on vacation, Granny and Pop-Pop watched our dog Captain for us.  He really enjoyed taking walks with their dogs Gunston and Piggy.

We will be heading back to school on the 29th of this month.  I will be a freshman (ninth grade) at Tuscarora High School and Owen will be in his first year (sixth grade) at Smart's Mill Middle School.

See you next month...

Happy Birthday to Dad and the USA!

Congratulations to Bethany and Dave!

the fabulous chocolate tableWe had some record heat last summer.  But it was nothing compared to what we're experiencing this year.  It’s been so hot that when the temperature drops below 90° F (32.2° C), it actually feels cool!

But enough about the weather.  The big event this month was the wedding of Mom’s cousin Bethany.   Mom, Dad, Granny, Pop-Pop and us kids climbed into a rental car (a Chevy Tahoe) for the road trip to Aurora, Ohio to attend the wedding.  We had to sit in the very back seat, which didn’t have much leg room.  We eventually quit complaining about this as the adults were not about to change places with us. Once in Aurora, we all had a great time during the wedding festivities.  The part we enjoyed most was the Chocolate Table.
